When the weather is hot, learning is still cool at IST! Our Summer Series™ is an exciting collection of intellectually stimulating (and fun!) one-on-one tutoring and small group (no more than 8 students per class) academic enrichment courses and seminars designed by IST to bring out the inner genius in students at all levels. 
 
One-on-One Tutoring


IST’s one-on-one summer tutoring is ideal for students in grades 2-12 (including rising college freshmen) who need to catch up or want to leap ahead during the summer. Each syllabus is custom-built to suit your student’s specific needs in the relevant subject(s). Day, afternoon and evening sessions are available to fit every schedule.  Contact us today to get started!

COURSES

NEW! WunderKind Summer  (Kindergarten Prep)
A new six-week course designed to give students ages 4-5 a preview of many of the concepts that they will learn in Kindergarten. The curriculum is theme-based, with a focus on learning foundational concepts through fun, multi-sensory activities in a small and non-stressful environment.  Limited to 5 students, who must be potty-trained.

BrainGain Booster™  (Math & Reading/Language Arts)
An exciting three-week course designed to boost math and reading/vocabulary/writing performance in a fun, interactive learning environment.  Each day, students participate in two hours of dynamic instruction in each subject, with a focus on reviewing foundational skills and making connections to concepts they will learn in the upcoming school year.  On "Teachback Fridays,"  each student is responsible for creating a lesson plan and teaching his/her favorite topics from the previous week to the class.

Prior to the start of the course, each student must take a diagnostic assessment to determine his/her existing skill set in each subject.  Students who do not meet minimum pre-testing requirements for their respective grade levels may be asked to register for one-on-one tutoring in lieu of or in conjunction with this course.

SEMINARS


Basic Math Boot Camp

Reinforces basic math concepts that are necessary for full math mastery.  Topics include: addition and subtraction with regrouping, multiplication, division, fractions and word problems.  (Grades 4-5)

Reading Comprehension & Retention
Helps students better understand, discuss and remember what they read, with a special emphasis on passages students encounter on standardized tests. (Grades 4-5)

Equips students with the skills needed for academic success, both inside and outside their classrooms. Topics include: grade-level appropriate note-taking, active listening, study, test-taking, organizational, time management and communication skills.


Bridge to Pre-Algebra

Provides a review of key concepts from  middle school math as well as a preview of important topics that students will encounter in Pre-Algebra. 

Bridge to Algebra I
Provides a review of key concepts from Pre-Algebra as well as a preview of important topics that students will encounter in Algebra I.


Bridge to Geometry

Provides a review of key concepts from Algebra as well as a preview of important topics that students will encounter in Geometry.


Essay Writing 101

Brings out the very best in student writing. Topics include: in-depth analysis of the analytical essay writing process/types of essays and development of essay components.

COURSES


Power-Packed PSAT Prep
The PSAT/NMSQT is offered once a year in mid-October. Our intensive 3-week course is designed to prepare students for the test and increase their eligibility for merit scholarships. Tuition includes  includes 27 hours of interactive classroom instruction, three diagnostics and course materials.  One-on-one tutoring is also available. A free fall refresher is held prior to the October test.  (Grades 9-11)

 

SAT Boot Camp
Intensive 4-week SAT Prep course designed by our master instructors to help students reach specific score goals in a shorter period of time.  IST’s no-nonsense approach to SAT prep combines an optimal mix of the content and strategies necessary for significant score increases. Includes 36 hours of intense and interactive instruction, three diagnostic assessments and all course materials and free fall refreshers. One-on-one tutoring is also available.

Introduces rising high school juniors and seniors to every aspect of applying to college, including conducting the initial search, narrowing down their lists, visiting/interviewing, requesting letters of recommendation, writing resumes and personal statements and completing and submitting applications.
